Career Connection Academy Sign Up

Dear CAIHS Parents,


All application packets are in the Main Office!


Below is a description of a new partnership between us the Chester County Economic Development Council. We are starting a new free After School Program. Below is the description and the flyers are at the bottom of this newsletter.


Chester County Economic Development Council has launched the 2022 Career Connection Academy (CCA) Level 1 after-school program. The Coatesville Area School District was selected as our partner site to host the program for 8th and 9th graders.


Career Connection Academy provides workshops, field trips and life skills for healthcare and computer science/STEM for 50 students. Students selected to participate in the Career Connection Academy meet on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. for program activities from March 1, 2022 through May 10, 2022. This schedule may vary depending on field trips, special programs, and school closings. There is no cost to participate in the Career Connection Academy.


Highlights of our healthcare curriculum include the following (9th graders only):


1. Hands-on learning from top medical and university professionals in our region

2. Live surgery which includes interaction with medical professionals during the procedure

3. Field trip to a medical facility to learn about healthcare careers

4. Financial literacy workshop provided by a local bank or credit union

5. Industry standard healthcare certificates to assist with future employment opportunities


Highlights of our computer science/STEM curriculum include the following (8th & 9th graders):


1. Hands-on and observational learning from partners and university professionals in our region

2. Exploring STEM through the design process, coding and entrepreneurship

3. Field trip to a local employer to learn about product development and engineering

4. Computer Application certificates to assist with future employment opportunities


Both programs offer:


1. $25 gift card for successfully completing registration process

2. $50 gift card for completing the program with a 70% attendance rate and obtaining at least one healthcare certificates or one computer science certificate

3. Light snacks will be provided during weekly sessions


Attached, you will find the Career Connection Academy application. Interested students should submit their application to Coatesville Intermediate High School Site Coordinators no later than February 22, 2022.

The History of Historically Black Colleges and Universities

The Coatesville Library is having a special program for Black History Month. It is a virtual program on the History of HBCUs coming up on February 23rd at 6:00 p.m.


The presenter, Dr. Eric Ewing, is the Executive Director of the Great Plains Black History Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. This event will be particularly interesting for our community since we have two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in our area – Cheyney University and Lincoln University.


This is a free event and appropriate for high school students, their parents, and anyone interested in learning more about HBCUs.

Upcoming PSSA and Keystone Schedule

CAIHS Families,


Below are the dates for the upcoming PSSA and Keystone Testing in the Spring. This year only students who are assigned to take the yearly exams will be coming to school that day. The students who are not assigned to take a test that day will have a virtual day. They are expected to complete the assignments on their Teachers Canvas page. For example, when 8th grade is taking the PSSA test the 9th grade students will be at home on a virtual school day. Each student will be notified what days they are to attend for testing.

PEARLS Mentoring Club

Pearls is a mentoring group that educates, motivates, and inspires teenage females here at the Coatesville Area Intermediate and High School. The club is returning to in-person meeting and they meet evert Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in CASH's library. Please stop in for meeting and become a member.

Covid Testing

Just a friendly reminder that the Coatesville Area School District continues to offer COVID-19 testing to students who become symptomatic during school hours. Our school nurses have been trained in the administration of BinaxNOW Tests and Cue (PCR) Tests.

Please note that students must have completed parental consent form on file with school nurse in order to be eligible to participate in this voluntary testing program. Please download consent form. Participants must create personalized QR Test Code by following directions below.

Follow instructions on screen, which include answering questions about (child’s) demographic information to create personalized QR code.

Please submit completed parental consent form and QR Test Code to school nurse.
